Ever actually listened to Mike

Ever actually listened to Mike Oldfield‘s seminal recording Tubular Bells? As a whole, it is much more interesting then the bit that was used for the title sequences in The Exorcist. I like it; it sounds remotely like Pink Floyd (circa “Echoes”) strained through a demented person’s skull. It’s epic, in that prog-rock sort of way, with a celtic influence thrown into the mix, too, especially at the end of part two when it lurches a jig that sounds like the end titles for a lost Looney Tunes cartoon.

On a darker note, you can blame this record’s success for making Virgin what it is today. Evidently, Mr. Oldfield couldn’t get this record released anywhere, so Richard Branson founded Virgin Records to release this record. The rest is history: Mr. Branson eventually became one of the richest men in the world, and there are very few things that Virgin and its family of corporations don’t do. So, remember Mikey whenever you walk into a Virgin Megastore (coming soon to insert your city’s name here), fly on Virgin Airlines, ad nauseum.
