In 2002, we may learn that the entire presidency — indeed, most of Washington DC — is only interested in freedom when it pertains to the ability to lie, cheat, steal, and make lots of money at other people’s expense. This is not news for many; politicans have always been accused of being greedy and self-motivated. However, I think that Enron will be this generation’s Watergate. It will throw into sharp relief the extent that political power is abused in order to make a buck. It’s enough to make the most stalwart apologists for capitalism as it is practiced in America sick to their stomachs.
