Whoa. A new CCD for digital still cameras and camcorders is on the way. This new techology, dubbed X3 and developed by Foveon, will eliminate the need for CCDs with color mosaic filters, which make today’s generation of digital cameras lose detail and color information — all of which leads to blurry, artifact-laden pictures.

I am stoked, and will put off my plans to buy a new digital camera until this stuff is a reality and the prices get reasonable. For now, my humble Coolpix 700 will do just fine.
