I don’t like Winamp anymore. Since I run in 1280×1024 mode, it’s just way too small. Yes, I know that I can double-size the application, but the playlist is still miniscule after doing that. And all of the skins are pretty ugly, IMHO.
So. I’m now using SysTrayPlay. It’s small (executable is about 200 KB), fast, and just configurable enough. It’s minibar view is easily-readable for the rest of us who have crappy vision (no wack-ass skins using 4 pt fonts). It’s also controllable from the system tray (click to pause/click again to play — no right-click menu necessary). Go get it now. One tip: you may want to increase the thread priorities in the advanced options.
The only downsides I have found is that it doesn’t work with the LJ client’s music detection feature. Oh, well. Also, it appears the author and his homepage has disappeared into the bit bucket. But, since this is the FINAL version of the application (i.e. it’s done), I guess that’s OK.
BTW: why is cnet.com also known as com.com? That’s just weird to me.
