Amelie

This is week two of our ten weeks of free movies from Blockbuster. The first week we rented The Doors, which I enjoyed. This week, we picked up Amélie.

All I can say is “wow”.

You can say what you want about the French, but they know how to make a fine film. This movie is fantastic. Even those who dislike the “romantic comedy” genre will find much to love about this movie. Audrey Tautou is a treat. Even the use of color made the movie seem surreal, just like Amélie’s dream world.

I also liked the clever reference to Cervantes.

Next week: The Royal Tenenbaums. And Tuesday I should be able to pick up my Widescreen DVD of LOTR:FOTR. Yay!

Addendum: I just realized that Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the director of Amélie, also directed Delicatessen (which I liked) and Alien: Resurrection (which I never saw).
