What a weekend. Got to play lots of Counter-Strike on Friday, catch up with my friends on Saturday, spend lots of quality time with Michelle, and managed to get her Thinkpad 365X up and running with FreeBSD-4.6.2-Stable. Recompiled the kernel for the first time (I am new to FreeBSD, but not to BSD in general — I have recompiled ULTRIX before… ugh) and managed, after much fscking around, to get the wacky ESS Audiodrive to make noise.
So, with a P100 (with no L2 cache - suck!), 24 MB of RAM and an 810 MB hard drive, this machine will make an excellent X station. If I can manage to max out the RAM at 40 MB, it might just be a good enough standalone machine. Oh, and the wireless networking rocks! So. With Samba, I can mount the mp3 share on my Windows XP box, and use the ncurses-based mp3blaster to play music on the stereo in the living room.
However, everything was done at the expense of sleep. I think I’ve had 12 hours of sleep over the entire weekend. Not good.
