Terry Gross, of NPR’s Fresh Air was interviewing Barry Manilow last night. Say what you want about his music, but he’s got quite the personality.
I had no idea that he was responsible for a few of the more well-known commercial jingles of our time:
“Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there!”
and
“I am stuck on Band-Aid, because Band-Aid’s stuck on me!”
Also, he indicated that, during the seventies, he looked about as stupid as any of the other people entertaining as the time (paraphrase: With my long blond hair, I looked like Britney Spears before the boob job!).
You can subject yourself to the Manilow interview here (requires RealAudio).
