About the same time last year, Joel Spolsky write an essay called “Fire and Motion”. Those who work in software — or, for that matter, work anywhere where they are left to their own devices long enough — will know what its like to have days where literally nothing gets done. It’s comforting to know that there are other professionals out there who have days — or even weeks! — like this.
Holidays tend to derail me; the one-two punch of Thanksgiving and Christmas are the worst of the year. I take comfort in knowing that, by Monday at the latest, I’ll be firing on all cylinders again. Until then, I’m striving to not be a total slack-ass and get some issues resolved with the project I’m working on. I mean, it’s not like I have a deadline or anything….
