Less Massive Than I Thought

The new Massive Attack album, 100th Window, is enjoyable if and only if you like the following things:

  • Songs containing less than 10% melody

  • An oppressive atmosphere, like an unlit factory at night

  • Political posturing in your trip-hop music

  • Sinéad O’Connor

Really, it’s not a bad listen, but it pales in comparison to the 1998 album Mezzanine. “What Your Soul Sings” is pretty damn good. The rest is merely serviceable.
