Holy crap! Turtles Music & DVD finally did themselves a favor and went out of business. This is good news.
Turtles, like so many other similar mall-type music stores, charged an inordinate amount of money ($18 for a single album-length CD) for their music, which is why no one would go out of their way to actually shop there. Why go there when both Best Buy or the local independent record store charges less and has just as much (or more) selection. Why go there when you can sit at home and legally download (using Rhapsody or iTunes) songs off the Internet. At a 99 cents a song on iTunes (and 79 cents per on Rhapsody), you’re still spending less money than you would had you bought the same CD from Turtles, Sam Goody or some other useless chain store. Of course, you could also go and steal the music using your favorite P2P software and spend less, but you might feel bad about it, which is a serious buzzkill, man.
Anyways… as I was saying, Turtles is closing up shop here and has (literally) tons of music to offload, some of which doesn’t suck. They are discounting everything in the store at 80% or better. How much does this rock, you say? Here’s tonight’s haul, with the price I paid for each CD:
- Apollo Four Forty, Gettin’ High On Your Own Supply. $3.00.
- eastmountainsouth, eastmountainsouth. $3.00
- Eddie From Ohio, Quick. $3.00.
- Fluke, Progressive History X. $2.00
- Front 242, Pulse. $3.60.
- Recoil, Liquid. $3.40.
- Sheila Divine, Secret Society. $1.80.
- Simple Minds, New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84). $3.60.
Pretty cool, you say? Wait! I also managed to score this.
That’s right. I can now annoy you with this irritating Internet meme (you get three choices: the Radio Edit, Extended Mix, or CLUB MIX!) for way less than a pack of chewing gum (20 cents). You will note that, for some silly reason, the same CD is selling used at Amazon.com for $20.
So, all that music for about $25.
And there is so much more I still want. Anyone shopping for my Christmas or Birthday (January 5, I turn 31) presents can go and fetch me any one of the following:
- the new Over the Rhine CD
the new Rachel’s CDObtained 14 October 2003.- pretty much anything by Veda Hille
