Noted and Quoted

In this week’s War Against Silence (issue #452, “(place)”), glenn takes another break from reviewing obscure music to ruminate on whether or not he considers himself rooted to any particular place. It’s a good essay, touching on the notion of how our cities and towns are becoming more similar every day (cough, cough… Starbucks). But what really caught my eye was this line, buried in the middle of the piece:

People, in the aggregate, have a sad tendency to suck.

Even though the sentiment hardly qualifies as a revelation, the way he said it made me laugh. It struck a nice balance between being astute and being a smartass.

(N.B. This was issue #452 in a weekly series, which means that he’s been at this for 8 years and 36 weeks—an eternity in “Internet time”. I think I started reading his reviews back when he was a part of Adam Curry’s first website, which was around issue 30-40 or so. Tempus fugit.)
