Left Behind!

You know, the Left Behind series of books has always provoked in me a feeling of sickening dread. Perhaps it’s because it seems like the attitude that spawned the series of books was something along the lines of “let’s take the Book of Revelations and make it a K1CK A$$ B3ST$ELLER AND MAJ0R M0T10N P1CTURE with lots of related merchandise to sell at all the LifeWay Christian Bookstores all across ’Merica!”.

Of course, I’ve never read them. I just feel icky looking at them.

So, it is with joy that I discover that Slacktivist is doing the dirty work in reading and deconstructing the Left Behind series for those of us who have no patience or time to bother reading it. So far, what he found is really shedding a light on my icky feelings. Basically, it seems that there is an entire market of people out there who believe that the Earth is basically screwed and since these are the end times, who cares? Let the whole thing go straight to Hell and Wait for Rapture. Meanwhile, keep on polluting the skies, water, etc.

Whatever… I’m pretty sure that there is nothing in the Bible that gives humanity a pass for crapping in their own nest.

Now, understand that had this been a typical Lefty-secular-humanist-Christian-baiting kind of thing, I wouldn’t bother to write about it, let alone link to the post that started his ongoing rant. However, Slacktivist seems to actually be approaching the books from a believer’s point of view, which lends more impact to his statements.
