My wife and I, tired our TV’s crappy reception and lack of good programming on the major networks, have decided to slouch into the 21st century and order DirectTV with TiVo service.
So, after the morning of April 13, I will be able to watch The Daily Show, BBC America, and all the stuff I’ve been missing all these years because I didn’t want to spend another $50 per month on anything. When asked by my co-workers and/or friends whether or not I saw that hilarious episode of South Park last night, I will no longer be obligated to explain, for the nth time, that I didn’t see it because Comedy Central doesn’t arrive to my televison via rabbit ears.
While that is all well and good, I’m really looking forward to the TiVo. I’m excited that our TV watching habits will be completely unfettered from the tyranny of the network programming schedules (i.e. I will be able to watch Alias when I want to, dammit). Plus, I may never have to sit through another five minute block of commercials.
I am able to justify the extra monthly expense with the fact that our usual movie-going habits (avg. 3 movies a month for the two of us = 6 tickets @ $7.50 + optional ridiculously-priced concessions >= $45) have been sharply curtailed by the addition of a particular little bundle of id to our household.
