It's Time To Get Shrill!

Once again with the if you criticise the war, you are with the terrorists refrain, this time from Bob Dole.

The ad referenced by Mr. Dole is called “Quagmire”, and is prominently featured on the MoveOnPAC website.

Let’s deconstruct Mr. Dole’s statement. It’ll be fun!!!

As Chairman of the Bush-Cheney Veterans Coalition, and as a veteran, I call on John Kerry to demand that MoveOn.org take down their ad depicting a defeated American soldier.

Because it demoralizes, gives aid and comfort to the enemy, blah blah blah. Listen, the people who are dealing with this war on the front line are demoralized by what they see on the ground as well as what is happening with the DoD, not by some two-bit ad sponsored by a liberal PAC.

It’s one thing to debate whether we should take the fight to the terrorists, but depicting an American soldier in effect surrendering in the battle against the terrorists is beyond the pale.

It’s called metaphor, Bob.

The soldier (representing OUR TROOPS) depicted within the ad is sinking into quicksand (representing THE SITUATION IN IRAQ). When he is almost up to his neck, he holds his gun over his head, which is a way to denote to your enemy that you surrender. This is to show that the soldier (OUR TROOPS) is in a position (IN IRAQ) where he CANNOT SUCCEED. This is not to say that the soldier is surrendering to the terrorists; it is to say that he cannot win against them in this position. Who is responsible for getting him into this mess? (Hint: it rhymes with tush!)

I cannot believe that John Kerry, who reminds us daily of his Vietnam service, would possibly approve the disgusting and demoralizing portrayal of American soldiers fighting for us in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world.

See above. This has mainly to do with Iraq. I wish we’d finished the job in A-stan, personally, but that’s another story. Plus, last I checked, the ad was sponsored by MoveOnPAC, which is not the same as the Kerry/Edwards campaign. I’m sure he’ll denounce it as soon as Georgie calls off the Right-Wing attack poodles (any day now, right?).

John Kerry has raised doubts about our troops’ ability to maintain security as well as Iraqi’s ability to decide their own future through elections. He has called the allies in Iraq “window dressing.”

Kerry’s full quote is, “The fact is that [the allies] are really window dressing to the greatest degree. They weren’t there in the beginning when we went in and are not carrying the cost of this war.
