Days Go By

Well, there was a little dry spell in the Isabella pictures, as well as the usual weblogging. I think I have been suffering from “Outrage Overload” lately. That, and I’ve been busy, and (recently) recovering from some weird 48-hour fever. This illness began abruptly on Tuesday—the same day that Michelle and I took Isabella to the State Fair.

We got up early and entered the fairgrounds at 8 o’clock sharp. It was like a ghost town; all of the vendors were just setting up, and I got barked at more than a few times (c’mon Daddy, you know you want to win yer daughter a prize, etc.).

We really didn’t do too much. We stopped at some of the animal exhibits. Isabella was really into the cows and baby chicks. We also checked out some of the exhibits in the Education building (mostly crafts and other “for sale” stuff). We ate bad fair food that would make Atkins spin in his grave. And yes, I had a Deep Fried Twinkie. It was tasty, although would come to blame it for my illness later that evening. “IT WAS THAT DAMN TWINKIE!” I would proclaim whilst shivering in my bathrobe, as my fever peaked at nearly 103 degrees.

Since this is an election year, there were the usual campaigners, both local and national. I amusingly noted that the booths for Kerry/Edwards and Bush/Cheney were put in separate buildings. Probably a good idea, given the current political climate. I also noted that there was a anti-abortion booth directly across from the Bush/Cheney booth, while there was a local pacifist organization adjacent to the Kerry/Edwards booth.

Anyways, before all this, I’ve been the usual sort of busy that comes with having a child. Isabella is starting to crawl. Actually, she is more or less lifting herself up on all fours and then, with a grunt!, lurching forward, flopping on her belly. This repeats until she gets to whatever interested her, which is usually one of the following things:

  • a cup with a straw
  • a stray piece of paper
  • a stray piece of cat fur
  • the cat

At the speed she is going right now, the cat can easily outrun her. This will be changing all too soon once she can coordinate her legs and arms.

Tempus fugit!
