The iPod edition. Let’s see what plays today.
- Nine Inch Nails, “The Line Begins to Blur” (from With Teeth). This is one of the weaker tracks on the new album. I prefer the 80s-retro “Only” or the breakneak “Getting Smaller”.
- The Beta Band, “Squares” (from Hot Shots II). A perfect choice for a hot, sticky, languid North Carolina summer day. You know, the kind where there’s an ozone alert and you are advised to stay inside, but you go outside anyways (you have to mow the grass sometime) and when you open the front door you are greeted with a blast of hot air so dense with humidity that you are almost knocked to the floor by the sheer oppressiveness of it all. Yeah, that kind of day.
- Underworld, “Air Towel” (from Second Toughest in the Infants). “jane is waiting / in your software / in your blouse / in your denim”
- Fiona Apple, “Oh Sailor” (from Extraordinary Machine). This is a really crappy rip from the as-yet-unreleased album that Sony plans to sit on for a while, perhaps indefinately.
- Panthers, “Thank Me With Your Hands (MSTRKRFT Remix)”. This is a nice little dancy number, found via m(fr) a while back.
- Meat Beat Manifesto, “Transmission” (from Subliminal Sandwich). “Misuse, abuse, neglect, and reject… no self-respect.”
- George Winston, “Night (Part I: Snow)” (from December). From summer to winter in less than an hour. Heard in July, it’s particularly jarring.
- Elmo, “Happy Tapping With Elmo” (from Sesame Street’s All-Time Platinum Greats). Go ahead, laugh all you want… It’s a fun song. And besides, I have a child, so I HAVE AN EXCUSE.
- Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, “How Long Do I Have to Wait for You?” (from Naturally) Good old Southern soul. You really can’t get enough of this.
- The Chemical Brothers feat. Q-Tip, “Galvanize” (from Push the Button). The perfect song to end this shuffle.
The time has come to push the button. Have a good weekend.
