Glossolalia is off to Memphis, Tennessee to get her main logic board replaced.
In the meantime, I’ve ahem borrowed a castoff computer from work to use while the iBook is away. It’s a noisy little bastard made by these guys, but it works pretty well once you install Ubuntu Linux on it.
I thought you might like to know that the computer is called fakebelieve.
The only thing that doesn’t seem to be working quite right is the S3 Trio 3d/2x video card, which tends to hiccup under X.org in accelerated mode—sometimes even spontaneously rebooting the machine. Specifying “NoAccel” in the device section of the configuration file is a workaround; however, without acceleration the card can be beaten in a rendering contest by a kindergartener using a box of crayons while taking Ritalin.
When the hiccups happen, this is written to /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
S3VGEReset called from s3v_accel.c line 457
Anyone know what could be triggering this? Do I need to go and visit the code?
