Hello. Is this thing still on? Right.
So I go away to find that my web-hosting provider, TextDrive, has been acquired by Joyent. The jury is out on what effects this will have on the TxD customers (although Dean insists that it’s all good).
For the most part, I’ve been pretty happy with TxD, and, except for this past summer when my server seemed to be always caught napping in the middle of the day, I personally have had pretty good service from them.
Thus, it is disheartening to see someone I breathlessly referred to TextDrive continue to experience hardship and suffering. Furthermore, I have witnessed some less-than-stellar moments in customer service exhibited on the TxD support forums. Here is one particularly egregious example.
So, why am I so angry at TxD’s shortcomings?
- Because I feel like a fool after nattering on about how totally awesome TxD is, and I hate to be proven wrong about anything.
- Because I provided 0.5% of the initial venture capital to get these folks off the ground.
- I have a vested interest; I want lifetime to mean just that.
- Finally: dammit, you guys are supposed to be the good guys. Only faceless, evil corporations are supposed to treat their customers like idiots!
For the record, I’m going to stick it out; after all, my account is paid for. But, as Steven Colbert says:
“TextDrive, consider yourself on notice!”
