I’ve mentioned before that my first computer was a Kaypro II, a CP/M machine with no graphics whatsoever. Yes, the lack of graphics was a pain. While all my other friends were playing Wizardry and whatnot on their Apple IIs, I played Ladder, a Donkey Kong-style game written for CP/M.
To say I enjoyed this game is an understatement. I played Ladder so much so that the pinstripe on the keyboard where my 10-year-old wrists rested wore out. I recall writing Yahoo! Software, the makers of the game, a thank you letter. I think I even recieved a response, which, if I still have it, is mouldering in my parent’s basement.
Of course, years passed, and I moved on to bigger and better hardware, and with it, much fancier games. But I never forgot Ladder.
So, imagine my joy in discovering that someone has faithfully ported Ladder to Java.
Easy Street, here I come!
