rPath, meet Xen. Xen, meet rPath.

Allow me to plug my employer a bit.

We just released an update to rBuilder Online that allows you to easily build a Xen-based software appliance. For more on what that is and why this is the bees knees, you might want to read this.

After quickly perusing the HOWTOs over at the Xen Wiki, I’m convinced that our Xen support is not only first-class, but also the easiest to deploy, bar none. For example: if you were already using rPath Linux, updating your system to support Xen is as easy as running

conary update group-dist[xen,dom0]

as root. That’s it.

If you want to build a custom software appliance that targets Xen as a DomU, rBuilder makes it just as easy as creating a standalone system (cook groups to be DomU aware, build your image, deploy).

Virtualization is hot1, and having Xen in our toolbox (in addition to VMware, QEMU, Parallels) is just icing on an already tasty cake.

1 Some would say it never really went out of style.
